Writing is rewriting. Whether you’re making surgical edits or upending whole drafts, rewriting can be daunting, but it’s a necessary skill for screenwriters to be able to take notes and make changes.
In this weekend intensive, we’ll look at practical ways of rewriting your draft. Bring a script (or part of a draft) that needs a rewrite and we’ll spend the weekend taking a hard look at the script’s bones, finding new ways into characters and scenes. Writers will also get experience incorporating and discussing notes with fellow writers in small targeted groups and figuring out how to best utilize our fellow writers.
Writers can expect a mix of lectures, small groups, and one-on-one time with the instructor to go over their rewrite, plus some cold read feedback from fellow writers. They’ll leave with a solid plan and a better understanding of rewriting and incorporating notes as a whole.
Though this workshop is for screenwriters, writers working with the three-act-structure (the hero's journey) or heavy genre pieces may also benefit from the class. Zoom accommodations can be made for those who can't make it in person—just give Lighthouse a call.
