Grand Lake Retreat

Join Lighthouse Writers Workshop in the scenic mountain town of Grand Lake, Colorado, for a few days of writing, reading, and learning. Each day, you're invited to attend workshops and craft talks led by our experienced instructors. There's also plenty of time to explore the area, get outdoors, or just find a quiet spot and write. At night, participants gather for fireside readings and conversation. You're sure to leave with new ideas, new writing, and more than a few new friends. The Grand Lake Retreat for 2025 is July 13–18 at Shadowcliff.

Grand Lake Lodging

Shadowcliff Lodge, our retreat site, borders Rocky Mountain National Park and the roaring North Inlet Stream. It’s perched on a cliff overlooking Grand Lake Village and the Colorado Great Lakes area. The food at the lodge is homemade and delicious, and the rooms all have spectacular views. There are a few single rooms available, but most participants share a room with one or two other writers (the rooms can sleep six comfortably). We also recommend the Rapids Lodge, just down the hill from Shadowcliff.

Writing in Color Retreat

Join us for a retreat specifically designed to welcome, celebrate, and amplify voices of writers of color. Whether working on a novel, memoir, short fiction, poetry, or hybrid/interdisciplinary forms, our experienced faculty and guest instructors will work closely with you to support your writing process. The workshops focus on the creation of new works, connecting writers and their work to larger audiences, and amplifying narratives of historically marginalized voices to build more equitable, just, and sustainable communities. Writers will have the opportunity to study and create with our faculty, guest instructors, and build relationships with a community of peers. Writers identifying as people of color are eligible for retreat offerings.

Queer Creatives Retreat

The Queer Creatives Retreat is open to writers of all genres and creatives of all types who identify as members of LGBTQIA+ communities. We also welcome folks who are questioning their gender or sexual orientation and those who are in solidarity with LGBTQIA+ communities. Our intention is to center LGBTQIA+ people at the retreat. The 2024 Queer Creatives Retreat will be October 25-27.
