Lit Fest Fellowships
Fellowships for Emerging Writers
The Lit Fest Fellowship for Emerging Writers covers the full cost of tuition for an advanced weeklong or weekend workshop. Lighthouse will award three fellowships for Lit Fest 2024 to advanced writers of fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction who haven’t yet published a book-length work* and who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford a weeklong or weekend workshop.
Larrk Fellowship for Writers with Physical Disabilities
The Larrk Lit Fest Fellowship covers the full cost of tuition for an advanced weeklong or weekend workshop for a writer with a physical disability who wouldn’t otherwise be able to attend an advanced workshop. Lighthouse will award two fellowships for Lit Fest 2024 to advanced writers with physical disabilities. While we recognize that disability can be defined in many ways, for the purposes of this fellowship, and the funder’s requirements, we refer to the Americans With Disabilities Act to define a writer with a physical (visible or invisible) disability as having a physical impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, having a history or record of such an impairment, or being perceived by others as having such an impairment.
A panel comprised of published writers and writing faculty will review each fellowship application, looking for talent, promise, and originality. The panel’s final decisions will also consider the applicant’s financial need. Please do not send letters of recommendation.
Applications close on March 9.
*We define a "published, book-length work" as a novel, memoir, nonfiction book, or story/essay/poetry collection written by you and published by someone else in print, on the web, or as an e-book.
Applications
Applications open on January 2, and the priority deadline is March 9. Applications received after March 9 will be accepted on a rolling basis, space permitting. Fellowship applicants will be asked additional questions on the application form.
Previous Fellows
We launched the Lit Fest Fellowships for Emerging Writers in 2017, and the Veteran Writers Award in 2018. Read about the recipients and judges here.
