We all get stuck at certain points in our writing journeys. If you have a writing project that is causing you grief or making you feel temporarily paralyzed, or just need something to boost your creative thinking, come join others who face the same predicament in a supportive workshop that will refresh your writing practice. In this eight-hour, two-day course (the equivalent of one of our 4-weekers, just all in one weekend), we’ll use check-ins, writing, and intentional breaks to work on other types of crafts to break through our sticking points.
Each day will begin with check-ins, the workshop will then shift between instructor-led writing sessions and short craft breaks so the participants can roam between the two to find inspiration. The class may include hand sewing, yarn projects, origami, as well as photography, collaging, and coloring/drawing. Participants will discover that while they work with their hands, their minds are freed up to supply creative solutions to their impediment. We’ll conclude with a group debrief where we reflect and celebrate our progress together.
The instructors have experience using brief craft breaks to free themselves from “stuckness” and will create a supportive space for participants to discuss the questions and quandaries holding them back, and provide the creative infrastructure that can enable newfound momentum. All genres welcome—poets, fiction writers, creative nonfiction, dramatists, etc.—at all skill levels. Participants need not be “crafty” or skilled visual artists. This is meant to be a casual, fun, supportive environment where we work together in the spirit of creative endeavor to surmount temporary paralysis. Crafting supplies will be provided, but crafters are also welcome to bring their own supplies or ongoing projects.
Note: The cost of this class includes a $15 supply fee. We'll take an hour for lunch each day, and participants can either bring lunch or go to one of the nearby restaurants.
