Our partners at Denver Public Library present an evening with Marcelo Hernandez Castillo, an award-winning poet, memoirist, and advocate whose work explores migration, identity, love, and belonging. Castillo is the author of the critically acclaimed memoir Children of the Land, a New York Times Editors’ Choice and a profoundly moving account of growing up undocumented in the United States. His poetry collection Cenzontle won the A. Poulin, Jr. Poetry Prize and has been praised for its lyrical brilliance and emotional depth. His writing has been described as “exquisite and fearless” (The Washington Post), “a triumph of language and imagination” (Los Angeles Review of Books), and “a must-read for our times” (NPR).
During this special event, Castillo will share selections from his poetry and memoir, weaving together themes of resilience, displacement, and self-reinvention. Experience the power of language as he explores how poetry can be an act of resistance and healing. A Q&A and book signing will follow. Onsite book sales provided by Petals & Pages of Denver.
Join Castillo at Lighthouse on Saturday morning for his Spanish/bilingual writing workshop Dando vida a tus historias a través de la escritura!
