Adapting Stories for the Screen for Ages 12+

From Harry Potter and The Hunger Games to Percy Jackson and Shadow and Bone, we’ve all watched as our favorite stories have come to life on screen. If you have ever wondered how book adaptations work for TV and film, this course is for you! In this one-day intensive, we'll first explore popular examples of screen adaptations. Then, we’ll identify what works, what doesn’t, why certain changes are made, and how emotional moments from the page are transformed into epic moments in a movie. Finally, we’ll dive into the basics of screenwriting and use that knowledge to adapt our own scenes from our favorite book into one made for the silver screen!
