For four weeks, fourth-graders from Creative Challenge Community Elementary School took field trips to Lighthouse to work with one of our amazing poetry teachers. They learned what inspires different poets to write and then wrote work of their own. We were blown away by their creativity; below is just a sample of the incredible poems they created with our teachers.
Things to do inside of a flower bud
By Sadie H.
Read a book, watch tv.
Ski up and down the silk walls.
Smell the flower.
Feel the warmth
Play with the pollen.
Paint your nails.
Do your homework.
Get cozy and sleep.
Learn poetry, play
a game, draw a picture.
Have magic, play
with a bee.
Prick a finger
with a thorn,
remember life
before.
Things to do in the belly of my dog
By K.K.
Sleep in the socks. Hear her very demanding thoughts
Brush your teeth in the makeshift sink. Go explore the
darkest caves. Dance in front of no one except yourself.
Swim in the water she drinks. Try to scream up
and say “I’m in here so barf me up already my dear!”
Do your homework to pass the time,
maybe make up some silly rhyme.
If you have nothing to eat, devour her own meal.
Set explosives off.
That’s sure to make her cough. Have her swallow
some beads and strong so you can make some rings!
And if you really want, have her eat
your dollhouse furniture so you have a place to rest
your head. Turn on the news and see what’s up.
All things to do in the belly of a dog.
Things to do in an electric guitar amp
By Clyde M.
Look around.
Count the wires.
Open presents.
Stomp along to the music.
Walk beside the countless grippy strands.
Watch nobs being turned.
Find your way.
Get dressed.
Triumph in discovery.
Rest in the middle of chaos.
These are things to do in a guitar amp.
