8-Week: Intro to Screenwriting with Omid Ghaffarian

Want to learn how to write the next great movie? In this eight-week course, we'll develop, pitch, and write the first act (about 30 pages) of a script. Writers will learn screenplay structure, formatting, how to write quotable dialogue and create memorable characters, and they'll receive workshop feedback on their pages. Finally, writers will leave with the tools to finish their script. This course is ideal for first-time screenwriters.

8-Week: Playwriting Workshop with Melissa Lucero McCarl

This all-levels course is designed to help you discover your dramatic voice and to lure out those wild and woolly characters clamoring to tell their story through you. We'll cover the ground rules of the stage (structure, character, plot, dialogue, motivation, subtext, silence, etc.) and see how the best plays and playwrights adhere to, and continually break, them.

This course is a deep dive of self discovery that will bring our own personal life experiences and events to our characters and stories. We’ll first become in tune with our true inner self through writing exercises to determine our purpose and blocks.

4-Week: Your First Ten Pages with Joey Siara

It’s an open secret that execs and producers only read the first ten pages before they decide if your script is worth the time. This seminar will zero in on what your first ten pages need to accomplish in order to propel your reader beyond the first ten and into the rest of your story. We'll analyze teasers, character intros, and inciting incidents to see what works, what doesn't, and how we can implement efficient setups into our own scripts.

The Dreaded Middle (And How to Get Through It) with Jenny Taylor-Whitehorn

In this class, we’ll use screenwriting techniques to not only get through the middle, but energize and revitalize those in-between moments, focusing on the power of three-act story structure and crafting nuanced character arcs. Though we’ll be discussing screenwriting methods and using TV and film for examples, all stories are welcome!

Pre-Writing and Pitching Screenplays with Chris Grillot
