8-Week: Environmental and Place-Based Writing

Good stories don't happen just anywhere. In this critique-based workshop, we’ll focus on writing that brings specific environments to life in all their nuance and complexity, and we’ll think about how certain settings can dictate outcomes for their inhabitants. We’ll discuss work that examines rural, urban, and wilderness environments, with an eye toward complicating the idea that humans and nature are separate. Participants should anticipate weekly readings, focused discussions, and occasional writing exercises. Each participant will have the opportunity to workshop their writing once for about 40 minutes.
