This reading-and writing- based course examines the fundamental keystones of short fiction. In other words, we're going to read a lot and we're going to write even more. We'll learn about character, plot, structure, language—all the rules about what should go into a successful short story. And we'll break some rules, too because great fiction has never stayed inside all the lines.
Writers in this class can expect a fair amount of in-class writing, weekly reading assignments and optional writing assignments, lots of in-class discussion, and occasional first-blush in-person feedback to work read aloud.
