Julissa Contreras had her off-Broadway debut with her play Vámonos at INTAR theatre in spring 2023. As a writer, performer, podcaster, educator, and advocate, Julissa focuses on storytelling as a framework for the expansion of our collective consciousness and the preservation of our nuanced yet meaningful histories. Julissa leans into her perspective of the world as a Dominicana from the Bronx as well as those of the surrounding communities that have socialized her experience.

In the digital space, Julissa is the creator of the YouTube it “Sh*t Spanish Girls Say” and the Ladies Who Bronché Podcast. She has been a featured writer for Mitu’s “The Kat Call” (season 3), Spotify’s “Lenny Says” podcast, Skittlez Music TV, and others.

Her work has been commissioned and nurtured at SOLFest @ Pregones Theater (2021), Latinx Playwright’s Circle's Mentorship @ Kabayitos Theater, LPC’s Greater Good Commision, INTAR’s MicroTEATRO festival, Atlantic Theater’s African Caribbean Mixfest, MTA Radio Plays at Rattlestick, Theater Jam at Rattlestick (2017, 2019), Harlem 9’s 48 Hours in El Bronx, BX Writer’s Year Gone Hazy anthology, Teatro LATEA’s MLK Festival(2018), Space on Ryder Farm Greenhouse Residency (2017), NY Madness Viva la Mujer Festival (2019), BAAD!Ass Women Festival (2019), One-Minute Play Festival at INTAR (2012-2019), Maria Irene Fornes Festival at INTAR (2011), and Middle Voice Theater.

In addition to her artistic endeavors Julissa has dedicated 15+ years to working within communities, nonprofits, and companies with a focus on social impact, creative direction, storytelling, community programming and strategy.
