Joe Fassler is the editor of Light the Dark: Writers on Creativity, Inspiration, and the Artistic Process (Penguin, 2017), a collection of interviews with leading authors based on his "By Heart" series for The Atlantic. His first novel, The Sky Was Ours (out from Penguin, 2024), is a work of speculative fiction about the unintended consequences of technology.
His award-winning essays and reporting appear or are forthcoming in venues like The New York Times, Wired, The Guardian, and The Best American Food Writing. A 2019 - 2020 Ted Scripps Fellow in Environmental Journalism at the University of Colorado Boulder, he currently lives in Denver.
