Steven Dunn is a 2021 Whiting Award winner and author of the novels Potted Meat (Tarpaulin Sky Press, 2016) and water & power (Tarpaulin Sky Press, 2018). He was born and raised in West Virginia, and after 10 years in the Navy, he earned a B.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Denver. Some of his work can be found in Columbia Journal and Granta Magazine.
Steven is an incredible instructor with a talent for facilitating powerful conversations about how and why we can show up for one another as writers in a workshop. His workshops lift, celebrate, and question the work without falling into blanket criticism or cruelty. After workshopping, I found myself inspired to work on and revise my submitted piece, rather than feeling demoralized or like I had to start over. Steven does a great job running a workshop with space for everyone to learn how to be and do better.
