Do you have a hard time starting—or finishing—a new story? Or, once you’ve drafted a story, are you at a loss as to how to revise it, afraid that you’ll ‘ruin’ your story or turn it into something you never intended or anticipated? Well, this class is for you. In this workshop, we’ll not only generate a wholly new story from beginning to end, but we’ll also play around with it each week, tapping into our own hidden channels of creativity. The goal will be to deliver a story that you didn’t intend or anticipate—a story that will surprise your reader and you. In the process, you will experiment with and learn more about structure, POV, character, setting, motif, and compression. Come prepared to write.
Writers can expect a generative class based around lecture and discussion of craft, required weekly exercises, and some in-class writing.
Please note: This is a generative class focused on generating and revising wholly new work rather that workshopping each other’s prose.
